The Chronic Dev Team and, more specifically, team member Joshua Hill (@p0sixninja) has just barely posted some great news for current jailbreakers and those waiting to jailbreak their iPhone 4 devices and iPad tablets — the Greenpois0n 4.1 Jailbreak is ready to roll and will be available this Sunday — 10/10/10 at 10:10:10AM GMT — memorable date, memorable time, and certainly a most memorable jailbreak in that THIS jailbreak will require new hardware from Apple (i.e., chipset) to patch the exploit.

iPhone users stuck on 4.0.2 and 4.1 will finally be able to jailbreak, and those like me who have avoided the latest firmware update from Apple in order to preserve their present jailbreak can now rejoice that they can benefit from the firmware update (proximity sensor, anyone??) AND enjoy the benefits of jailbreaking. Stay tuned on 10/10/10 because as soon as there is a link, we will direct the way. Keep in mind, though, that this jailbreak is hotly anticipated server traffic is certain to be very, very busy, so be patient on Sunday.

Thanks, Chronic Dev  Team, for your hard work!

I could certainly benefit from a new jailbreak so I can update my iPhone 4 with iOS 4.1 — heaven knows I’ve done plenty of cheek-button-pressing during phone calls due to proximity sensor issues — but the other benefits derived from being jailbroken have caused me to wait for a jailbreak for the newly-released iOS 4.1 firmware update from Apple. The good news is that not only is a jailbreak for iOS 4.1 coming in the near future, but the jailbreak is based off of a bootrom exploit that will require an entirely new processor revision from Apple. In other words, the latest exploit that a new jailbreak would be based off of should be impervious to any additional Apple firmware updates. Outstanding!

This news should make jailbreakers and jailbreaking wannabes rejoice in the streets. I, for one, am very excited about this latest breakthrough by the generous members of the jailbreaking community and look forward to having the new jailbreak so I can update my iPhone 4 to iOS 4.1 AND jailbreak my iPhone — yes, I want to have my cake and eat it, too.

More good news — the new exploit and subsequent jailbreak should apply to the iPad as well, so if you want to keep your iPad jailbreak groove going, it’s just a matter of time before the new jailbreak should be available. Good work, iPhone Dev-Team and jailbreaking extraordinaires. Thanks for your effort and time!

Today Apple released their firmware update 4.1 for the iPhone and iPod touch, so if you want it, just sync up to your iTunes and click the “update” button. For all of you iPad owners, this update is for the iPhone and iPod touch ONLY, so you’ll have to sit tight until November before you get all the goodies that iOS 4.1 has to offer on your iPad.

If you are running a jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch, you will want to refrain from this update until the jailbreaking community and gurus give the green light. Installing this update will most certainly render your jailbreak useless, not to mention your carrier unlock. Again, DON’T UPDATE to iOS 4.1 if you are unlocked and/or jailbroken.

If you have updated to iOS 4.1, do you notice any change or improvement in your iPhone or iPod touch? Let us know in the comments!

In case you missed Apple’s Fall Event today, here’s a quick recap of what Apple is bringing to the media-hungry consumer market:

  • iOS 4.1 for iPhone and iPod touch coming next week (including bug fixes, HD YouTube uploads, TV rentals and Game Center), and iOS 4.2 for iPad coming in November with goodies like wireless printing (yay!) and AirPlay (replaces airtunes and adds pictures and streaming video).
  • A new multi-touch iPod nano available in different colors for $149 (8GB) and $179 (16GB).
  • Revamped iPod touch that’s thinner and sports a Retina display like the iPhone 4, HD video recording, FaceTime video calling, 3-axis gyro, and iOS 4.1 with Game Center.
  • New iTunes 10 with a better UI, new icon, and Ping social networking.
  • New Apple TV that’s a lot smaller, incorporates Netflix, $4.99 HD Hollywood movies, TV shows from ABC and FOX for 99-cents, and a $99 price tag for the whole kit and kaboodle.

What do you think about Apple’s new product announcements today? What about having to wait until November for iOS 4.2 for iPad?? And with the new iOS 4.1 coming next week, will you be tempted to lose your jailbreak if your iPhone 4 is jailbroken?
