The iCADE for iPad, from ThinkGeek, is the real deal and has been reviewed. It does require Atari’s Greatest Hits app from the App Store, found here, and is compatible with both the iPad and iPad 2. Here’s a little more about the Greatest Hits app:

TouchArcade has reviewed iCADE and provided video of actual use on YouTube. According to the reviewer, it’s a must-have “accessory” for the iPad for the serious retro-gamer. If you’re old enough to remember games like the original Asteroids, Centipede, Tempest, and more, or if you want to try your joystick-and-button reflexes against some of the classics, then iCADE just might be for you.

In today’s sluggish economy where a dollar just isn’t what it used to be, Electronic Arts (EA) is bringing some Christmas cheer just a little bit early with an INSANE sale on numerous titles, including some very popular games for iPad and iPhone! For what is likely to last only a couple days (complete guess on my part), approximately 70 games are on sale for only $.99 each! Here’s a quick rundown of just a few of the titles you can grab for a dollar while the sale lasts:

iPad Titles

  • SimCity Deluxe (new!)
  • Need for Speed Hot Pursuit
  • Yahtzee HD
  • Madden NFL 11 HD
  • Clue: Secrets and Spies
  • Reckless Racing HD

iPhone Titles

  • Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (new!)
  • NBA Elite 11
  • MMA
  • The Sims 3 Ambitions
  • Mirror’s Edge

Now is as good a time as any to shake your change jar and grab up some cheap games from EA at the App Store. You can head over to the EA section of the App Store here and start buying some great EA games!

The first mobile game powered by Epic’s cutting-edge Unreal Engine 3 technology, Infinity Blade ($5.99), is now available in the App Store for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. The graphics in this game are amazing — I have been able to spend a few minutes playing and I can already proclaim that this title is well worth the meager price of $5.99.

In the game, you have the chance to develop your character as you fight your way through a visually-stunning 3D environment. You control your character with tap-to-move controls to explore the castle realm and search for collectible items like treasure, swords, shields, armor, and other magical items to enhance your character and better prepare you for each battle that proves to be more and more difficult as you progress. During combat, you tap and swipe on your screen to attack, dodge, block, and cast spells — definitely a game that requires skill as well as luck.

I’m looking forward to delving into this game further when I have more time. As I said, the graphics are stunning and look absolutely amazing on my iPhone 4′s retina display. It’s an excellent effort from ChAIR Entertainment and they promise to bring more in the future, like new areas to conquer, multiplayer (!), and new equipment and enemies for your character. If you pick up Infinity Blade for your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch, let us know what you think of the game!

Imagine combining shuffleboard, bowling, and………….poker?

Enter “10 Pin Shuffle,” by Digital Smoke. I tried the Lite version for free, and after one round, I knew I had to pay the $3.99 for the full version. I was hooked.

The HD graphics are smooth and sharp, and my cat was absolutely mesmerized by the 3D motion and crisp sound effects, making it extremely difficult to play the game with her in the same room.

Strikes earn you two cards and spares earn you one. If you manage to bowl well enough in 10 frames to earn a five card hand, any remaining strikes beyond the five cards will allow you to discard two cards of your choice and redraw them (spares allow one discard/redraw). After 10 frames, the best poker hand wins!

You can play against the iPad, and unlock more difficult opponents, or you can play against other iPad users via bluetooth or wifi by choosing Peer-to-Peer play.

The game also includes slight variations of gameplay, such as more traditional bowling, as well as the traditional game of shuffleboard.

I’m constantly looking for different games and time-wasters for those dull moments in the waiting room or during commercials, and 10 Pin Shuffle will nicely fit the bill for awhile. I would recommend giving the free version a try to see if you like it, but you might want to put the cat out first.

We just barely reviewed W.A.R.P. for the iPad, and we likes us some planet-saving, asteroid-deflecting iPad fun! The goal in WARP is to save the population of Earth from total destruction as asteroids, splintering comets and fireballs hurtle relentlessly towards our planet. You — yes, you — are the only one that can save the world by strategically placing temporary “Gravity Wells” that alter the trajectory of the incoming asteroids. You can only place up to three (3) Gravity Wells at a time. Your only other line of defense is a plasma shield that will envelope the Earth temporarily and vaporize everything that touches it, but then it takes a good while for it to recharge before you can use it again!

WARP’s developer, unit9, has kindly given us some promo codes to give away to YOU, and all you have to do is leave a comment below, including your name and email (email is vital so we can inform you if you win!). Since you can only place up to three Gravity Wells at a time and can only use the plasma shield sparingly, we want you to tell us in your comment what you would do as a fourth measure of defense. Get creative and have fun with it!

We will randomly select the winners after a few short days, so leave your comment (only one comment accepted) and good luck!

From the very first day I owned an iPad, I’ve been looking forward to playing the games that would take advantage of the extra screen real estate that the iPad offers. Yes, the iPhone is fabulous for games, but the iPad takes things to a much higher level. One of the games I’ve had the pleasure to play recently is W.A.R.P. (App Store for $1.99), a game from unit9 that can be played universally on the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. WARP, an acronym for Wayward Asteroid Redirection Program, is a deceptively simple game where it’s up to YOU to save the Earth and the billions of people who inhabit this big blue marble. Read on after the break for my review, a video of the game and more pictures.

Black Space, by Xanist Software, is available in the App Store here for $4.99, and it is proof positive that there are gems to be found among the thousands of App Store apps. It is available for iPad, iPhone and the iPod Touch, and although its 3D graphics are best appreciated on the expansive screen of the iPad, it is very playable on the iPhone and iPod Touch. Check out the rest of the review and pictures after the break!

We knew that the iPad would spawn loads of creative apps and accessories, but ThinkGeek.com has taken creativity to the next fun, nostalgic, retro-80′s level with the iCade. Using MAME files readily available from numerous sources on the internet (keep in mind that you should own the original game cartridge before downloading), the iCade provides a miniature classic arcade cabinet for your iPad to connect to and retro joystick and button controls for playing your favorite arcade classics like Donkey Kong, DigDug, and others.

The cabinet is 9″ wide x 10″ deep x 16″ high and sits conveniently on a tabletop. Inside the cabinet is a 30-pin connector for your iPad, integrated 2.1 Dolby speakers and subwoofer, a 10W USB power adapter for your iPad, and even one- or two-player buttons that actually work. The cost is $149.99, which is a little pricey, but keep in mind that you can find dozens of classic arcade games online for hours of retro entertainment. In addition to the cabinet, you only need to download the free iCade app from the App Store, connect your iPad, and you are ready to go. Kudos to ThinkGeek for creativity!

UPDATE: This item is one of those “wish list” kind of products — merely a fantasy, hoax, April Fools, vaporware, you name it. Nevertheless, we wants it!  Classic Asteroids, anyone?
